There’s no rule that says your wedding has to look like everyone else’s.
One of our favorite weddings proved exactly that.
From the beginning, this couple wasn’t interested in creating a wedding simply because something was traditional or trending. They created a celebration rooted in who they were—their personalities, passions, and the things that brought them together.
And yes, that meant having a Viking wedding.
Instead of asking, “What are we supposed to do?” they asked a much better question:
“What feels like us?”
Their Viking theme wasn’t simply decoration. It became part of the experience. The clothing, details, atmosphere, and traditions all worked together to create a celebration that felt distinctly theirs.
Nothing felt like it was there simply because Pinterest said it should be.
It had meaning.
This is why we love weddings with personality.
You don’t need a Viking ceremony or an elaborate theme to make your wedding unique. Sometimes individuality shows up in much smaller ways—a family tradition, unconventional attire, your favorite food, a ceremony ritual, or music nobody expects.
What matters is that when someone walks into your wedding, they can immediately tell:
This is their wedding.
Not a template. Not a trend.
Theirs.
When couples feel connected to the experience they’ve created, something changes.
They stop performing.
They start experiencing.
That’s when we get to photograph the laughter, ridiculous moments, emotional reactions, unexpected interactions, and quiet connections that tell the real story.
Those are the photographs we’re always looking for.
If you’re planning your own wedding, consider this your permission to ignore some of the rules.
Wear something unexpected.
Skip a tradition you don’t care about.
Create a new one.
Bring your culture, hobbies, passions, weirdness, fandoms, families, and personalities into the celebration.
Your wedding doesn’t need to impress everyone.
It should mean something to you.
Because twenty years from now, you shouldn’t look through your wedding photographs and think, That was a beautiful wedding.
You should look at them and think:
That was so us.
That’s the kind of wedding we love to photograph.
Your people. Your passions. Your story.
Moments over poses. Always.
